Fabric Backdrop and Roll-Up Banner Guide: Sizes and Uses

Fabric backdrops, roll-up banners and table covers compared: sizes, which fits a 10x10 booth, a photo wall or a lobby, and how your logo should sit on each.

Three pieces cover almost every indoor display job: a fabric backdrop behind you, a roll-up banner beside you, and a table cover in front of you. Each one does a different job, and the right mix depends on your space, how often you travel and what you want in the photos. Here’s how the sizes line up, when to use which, and how your logo should sit on each so it reads from across the room.

The three pieces at a glance

Piece Sizes Sets up in Best for
Fabric backdrop 8 or 10 ft wide, 7.5 ft tall (slider frame); 8 or 10 ft pop-up A few minutes, no tools Back wall of a booth, photo wall, stage or lobby
Roll-up banner 24 to 60 in wide, about 6 to 7 ft tall; tabletop sizes too Under a minute Beside a table, at an entrance, anywhere you need a sign that travels
Table cover 6 and 8 ft loose, fitted or spandex; caps, runners and round covers Seconds The front of every booth, registration and check-in tables

Fabric backdrops: the back wall

A fabric backdrop is a frame with a printed fabric graphic stretched over it. Fabric has a matte finish, so it doesn’t glare under show lights or camera flashes, which is why it’s the standard behind photo lines, panels and booths.

Slider frame. Slides together with no tools, 7.5 ft tall, in 8 ft or 10 ft widths. The 10 ft fills the back of a standard 10 x 10 ft booth edge to edge. The 8 ft leaves a little room at each side for a roll-up or a plant, and fits rooms where 10 ft is tight. Frame, printed graphic and carry bag come together, and you can order a replacement graphic later for a frame you already have from us.

Pop-up frame. Pops open in about a minute, in 8 ft or 10 ft widths, with or without printed end caps that wrap the sides. It’s the faster setup of the two and packs into one bag.

Edge to edge or step and repeat? Print one design across the whole wall when you want a scene, a photo or a big headline. Choose step and repeat, your logo repeated in a grid, when the wall is for photos of people: however they stand, a logo shows next to them. Galas, sponsor walls, team photo days and red carpets use step and repeat. Our step and repeat backdrop size guide covers logo spacing and tile size.

Roll-up banners: the sign that travels

A roll-up banner pulls out of its base in a minute and packs into a carry bag, so it goes to every market, show, open house and lunch-and-learn. The stand, printed graphic and bag come together.

Roll-up Size Use it for
Budget 24 x 72 in Light duty: a menu, directions, a one-day event
Good and Better 33.5 x 80 in The everyday vendor roll-up, one per table or entrance
Best 36 x 80 in A premium stand you’ll keep; swap in a new graphic later
Wide 48 or 60 in A mini back wall when a full backdrop is too much
Double-sided 36 x 74 in Aisles and entrances where people pass both ways
Tabletop 24 or 36 in wide On a registration table or a counter

One roll-up beside your table is enough for most booths. Two, one at each front corner, frame the space when you can’t use a back wall.

Table covers: the front of the booth

A printed table cover turns a plain folding table into part of your brand, and it’s the piece every visitor sees up close. Sizes match the standard folding tables: 6 ft covers fit a 72 x 30 in table and 8 ft covers fit a 96 x 30 in table.

  • Loose drapes to the floor on all sides and goes on fast.
  • Fitted has box corners for a tailored look.
  • Spandex stretches over the table and legs for a sleek, modern line.
  • Table cap covers just the top, the lowest-price way to put a logo on a table.
  • Runners and round covers for cocktail tables, bar-height tables and check-in desks.

All three full covers cost the same for each size, so pick the look. Our table cover size guide helps if your table isn’t standard.

When to use which

Situation What to bring
10 x 10 ft expo booth 10 ft fabric backdrop, 6 ft fitted table cover, one roll-up at the open corner
10 x 20 ft booth Two 10 ft backdrops side by side, or one plus a wide roll-up, and two 8 ft covers
Photo wall, gala, sponsor line 10 ft step and repeat backdrop; add a roll-up with the schedule or sponsor list
Conference table, job fair, school night Table cover plus one roll-up beside it; no backdrop needed
Lobby or retail entrance Pop-up backdrop or a wide roll-up for a seasonal message
Traveling by car to many events Roll-ups and a table cover: the whole kit fits in a back seat

If you can only buy one piece first, make it the table cover: lowest price, in every photo, works at every event. The backdrop is the biggest upgrade in how established you look. The roll-up is the piece you’ll use in the most places.

How your logo should sit

On a backdrop: keep your logo and headline in the top third, above head height, so it shows over the people standing in front of it. Tables, chairs and product will cover the bottom two feet, so use that band for color, not words. On a step and repeat, logos roughly 12 to 18 in across, spaced evenly, read well in a photo taken from about 10 ft away.

On a roll-up: logo at the top, one short line about what you do under it, and anything people need to read (a price, a date, a web address) no lower than about 3 ft from the floor. Leave the bottom 6 to 8 in simple, since the base and the floor crowd it.

On a table cover: the front panel is the whole canvas. Center the logo on the front drop, large enough to read from across the aisle, and leave the top surface plain or a solid color so your products and signs don’t fight it.

Everything starts with a sharp logo file. Our guide to a print ready logo file explains what to send so edges stay crisp at 10 ft wide.

All three are indoor pieces at heart. Outdoors, a backdrop or a roll-up acts like a sail, so weight it, keep it out of the wind, and bring it in at the first gust. For outdoor booths, a printed canopy with walls is the right tool.

FAQ

What size backdrop do I need for a 10x10 booth?

A 10 ft wide backdrop fills the back wall edge to edge. An 8 ft leaves room at the sides for a roll-up. Both are 7.5 ft tall on the slider frame; check your exhibitor manual for height limits.

Roll-up banner or backdrop: which should I buy first?

A roll-up if you travel to many small events and need a sign that sets up in a minute anywhere. A backdrop if your main event is a booth or a photo line, where a full branded wall changes how you look.

What is the standard roll-up banner size?

About 33.5 x 80 in. It’s the everyday size for one stand beside a table. Budget stands are 24 x 72 in, and wide stands run 48 or 60 in across.

Can I use a fabric backdrop outdoors?

It’s built for indoors. Outdoors it catches wind, so weight it, keep it sheltered and bring it in when gusts pick up. For outdoor events, use a canopy with printed walls.
